Chris St John has been on a roll for the last two years, writing dozens of songs that have featured on two different albums. His debut album, I’m Dreaming, was published in 2021 and received critical praise as well as financial success. The album spawned four chart-topping singles on the World Indie Music Charts and the Euro Indie Music Network, including “I Called You Rose,” which reached No. 3 on the World Indie Music Charts.
Chris St John recorded his album “Fly Away” in Nashville with famous producer Stephen Wrench and some of Music City’s best session players.
Chris St John’s music is difficult to categorize due to the range of the tunes. On the ballads, his voice is silky and clear, and on the uptempo tunes, it’s sincere and rocking. His tenor voice has incredible range and clarity, and his varied vocal stylings on each track make it difficult to believe he’s the same performer throughout the album.
Fly Away is about to take off. The title tune is a deep, poetic, and passionate ballad about Chris’s son, John, and the days he spent with him from childhood through his recent high school graduation. He created the song as his kid prepared to leave for college.
Stephen Wrench, who has worked with everyone from Lynyrd Skynyrd and Tom Petty to Don Henley, Bonnie Raitt, and Ozzy Osbourne, oversaw the compilation. The album was recorded in Nashville’s Omnisound Studios with some of the city’s most known session musicians. Wrench, a renowned radio promoter whose business Musik Radio Promotions serves to a network of over 250,000 stations in 180 countries, previously worked with St John’s earlier singles – and was so thrilled by the newest batch of tracks that he joined on as his producer for the current project.
Chris St John contributes a plethora of life experiences to his musical palette that would not have been possible if he had gone the starving artist road earlier in his adult life.
When asked during one of his interviews, Chris St John said, “I’ve always written songs for me, to convey my happiness and let go of my sorrows, and my songs are genuine. I didn’t write to make money; I wrote to express myself and for the sheer joy of it. Despite life’s challenges, I am an optimist, and I believe that my feeling of hope resonates to people in a meaningful manner. I want people who listen to appreciate the music while also paying attention to the words, which are an important aspect of who I am as an artist. I attempt to shape words like a sculptor, working on them until every word, line, and nuance is perfect.”
Fly Away is definitely the album to listen to, touching every aspect of life, soul-searching and pleasing to the ears. The album also features a gentle acoustic version of the song as a bonus track.
